Governor Brown vetoed a historic, bi-partisan bill that would have begun to rollback California's catastrophic "War on Drugs." In doing so, he confirmed our worst fears that he cares more about appearing "tough on crime" than advancing good solutions for California, as he prepares to run for re-election.

Just as he did in the recent fight over private prison expansion, Gov. Brown turned his back on smart, proven solutions, in order to curry favor with the right-wing. That's unacceptable. Our state desperately needs those funds for education and vital services, not endless prison spending.

Given his immense power, few progressive groups have the courage to call out Gov. Brown, but we do. It's right there in our name, and we won't back down just because the Governor is a Democrat.
